In seventh grade, Victor’s biology class took a field trip to a slaughterhouse. But it wasn’t only what he witnessed there that left an impression. It was what the class did afterward: they went to McDonald’s and ate hamburgers.
The bizarre contradiction of that day stayed with Victor for years: witnessing the realities of a slaughterhouse, then immediately returning to the familiar ritual of consuming meat as though nothing had happened.
Years later, that memory became The Butcher.
At 48 × 56 inches, the painting has an imposing physical presence, pairing Victor’s vivid visual language with a memory that is simultaneously disturbing, absurd, and strangely ordinary.
